Singing the Lord's Song in a Strange Land
Stuart and Sian Murray Williams

As suggested by the title, the theme of this year's conference was the encounter between familiar ritual and rhetoric, and an unfamiliar context. The discussions centred around the concepts of post-Christendom and postmodernity.

Stuart spoke about the death of Christendom and the emerging culture–ideas which were further explored in plenary sessions. The inevitable death of Christendom in our western culture did not appear too terrible to contemplate, with the prospect of new expressions of church portrayed as exciting and challenging.

In keeping with the theme, the message not only emerged from the talks but also during the times of reflection and worship lead by Sian.

Autumn and Winter

The seasons were used as a metaphor for the church in the post-Christendom era. In Autumn and Winter we explored what we grieved the loss of, what we would need to let go of and what needed to die within the church.

Spring

Springtime brought reflection on fresh signs of hope, things God might grow in us, and fresh signs of hope within the church.
